St. Cuthbert Mayne Church, Launceston

National Shrine of St Cuthbert Mayne and Diocese of Plymouth Place of Pilgrimage for the Year of Jubilee.

CELEBRATING THE JUBILEE YEAR IN THE DIOCESE OF PLYMOUTH

Pope Francis has declared the year 2025 as a Jubilee Year.  The Jubilee year is understood as a time to re-establish a proper relationship with God, with one another, and with all of creation.  The motto for this Jubilee Year is Pilgrims of Hope.

Plymouth Diocese has launched a new Pilgrims of Hope passport inviting pilgrims to visit four historically and spiritually significant churches in Cornwall, Devon, and Dorset during this Jubilee Year:

St Mary & St Boniface, Cathedral Church of Plymouth

St Cuthbert Mayne, Launceston

Holy Trinity, Dorchester

The National Shrine of St Boniface in Crediton

Please take a ‘pilgrim passport’ with you and collect the stamps from each of the churches. This is an opportunity for us all to journey together as Pilgrims of Hope.

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in your faith, so that in the power of the Holy Spirit you may be rich in hope.” Romans 15:13

Throughout the Holy Year, there will be opportunities for people to come and pray and celebrate at St Cuthbert Mayne Church and pilgrims are invited to enter.

Individuals and Community groups are invited to visit the Church. Below are some suggestions that may help you make the most from your visit.

† Mass – offering a mass intention for your group.

† Organise a visit to learn more about the Year of Jubilee and the Jubilee Church.

† Walk the old Launceston pilgrimage route to start or finish at our Church, visiting sites in the town relating to the life and martyrdom St Cuthbert.

† Join the local community for a warm welcome and enjoy some refreshments.

† Venerate the relic of St Cuthbert Mayne

† Collect your Diocese of Plymouth Pilgrim Passport and receive your St Cuthbert Mayne Stamp
